Adhering to international publishing standards, the Journal of Environmental Studies employs a double-blind peer-review process. This means that the identities of both authors and reviewers are concealed from one another, ensuring an evaluation based solely on scientific merit and free from bias.
In the first stage, authors submit manuscripts through the journal's online system. The Editor-in-Chief then assesses each submission for its quality and relevance to the journal's scope. Manuscripts that do not meet these initial criteria are rejected and removed from the workflow. Approved manuscripts undergo a technical check for formatting, writing and reference standards, and plagiarism. Once they comply with the author guidelines, they are sent for double-blind peer review to a minimum of two experts in the relevant field.
The results of the double-blind peer review, will fall into one of three categories:
Accept – The manuscript is accepted for publication in its current form.
Minor or Major Revisions Required – The manuscript requires specific revisions before a final decision can be made.
Reject – The manuscript is not suitable for publication in the journal.
Upon receiving the reviewers' reports, the editorial office will proceed as follows:
If both reviewers recommend rejection, the manuscript will be presented to the editorial board for a final rejection decision.
If both reviewers recommend revisions (minor or major), the manuscript will be returned to the author with the reviewers' comments for revision.
If the reviewers' recommendations conflict (e.g., one recommends revision while the other recommends rejection), the manuscript will be sent to a third reviewer for adjudication. The final decision will be made by the editor, considering all three reports.
Once the author submits a revised version, it is sent to a comparative reviewer (or the original reviewers) for re-evaluation. Based on this re-review report, the editor makes a final assignment decision.
If the editor's final decision is to accept the manuscript, the author will receive a provisional acceptance letter.
Following initial editorial decisions, all provisionally accepted and rejected manuscripts are presented for discussion at the editorial board meeting. The board’s final decision (final acceptance or final rejection) is then communicated to the authors.
For manuscripts granted final acceptance, the process continues as follows:
Language Editing: The manuscript is sent to a professional editor for Persian/English language polishing.
Publication Fee: After editing, the manuscript is returned to the corresponding author with an invoice for the applicable publication fee.
Production and Final Proofing: Upon receipt of payment, the manuscript enters the production stage. It is typeset and prepared for publication. A final proof is generated and reviewed by the journal editor.
Author Approval: This proof is sent to the author for final verification and approval. At this stage, authors may request only minor corrections.
Publication: Following author approval, the final version of the article is published online.
